 scars.  tatum has two significant scars on her back, directly along her spine. there wasn't enough time to plan a minimally invasive route for her operations. spinal surgeries have been much slower in using mis techniques, so it's safe to say given the circumstances, the surgeons were not comfortable doing that.one scar is located from just above the middle of her shoulder blades to where the band of a bra would lay from the thoracic procedure. the other is along the small of her back to just above where low rise bottoms would rest from the lumbar procedure.  mental.  depression, post–traumatic stress disorder
 diagnosis & treatment.  the majority of tatum's mental status changes happened just after the party at stu's house that left her and her brother near paralyzed, alongside several friends dead. the cheerleading scholarship she'd received could no longer be fulfilled, her entire way of living was flipped upside down with the extent of her injuries. the recovery process would be relatively unknown for some time. tatum couldn't be a normal young woman anymore in any sense. the survivor's guilt, hurt from betrayal, etc. that came from the murders weighed heavily on her. but she sought out professional help. in the years since, things have improved.
 physical.  when the garage door reached the top, tatum had wedged herself just right through the doggy door than her weight as well as the resistance of crushing her spine caused the door's electrical system to halt completely. it took quite a while for her to maneuver out and fall to the ground with the injuries sustained before even falling. once she'd hit the ground, tailbone first, she was injured again. the injury while inside the door was a flexion–distraction fracture at the t8/t9 levels which required a stabilization and decompression surgery, which incorporated the t5 – t11 vertebrae. the second, from wiggling out and hitting the ground, was a burst fracture at the l4 vertebrae, which required a corpectomy and fusion.the rehabilitation lasted quite some time. she technically recovered fully from the surgeries themselves after eight months. however, she found that there was still quite significant nerve damage, which affects her upper back, abdomen, and chest in terms of pain, numbness, tingling. the areas and severity of the issue at hand can vary day by day. she is prescribed medications for muscle relaxation, neuropathy, and pain that she takes multiple times a day.
